Crossing: Construct, Deconstruct and Reconstruct Dance!

Indian Dance Workshop
Facilitator: Kavitha Krishnan (Artistic Director, Maya Dance Theatre)

About the Workshop

Drawing on the practices and philosophies of Indian classical dance, (Bharathanatyam), and contemporary dance, the workshop will navigate the body and mind of the dancers to move through space between the nuances of traditional and contemporary dances, to access a notion of 'going beyond form' to discover Asian Contemporary expression.

The workshop is built around the movement research of the signature expression of Maya Dance Theatre; dancers whirl, twirl and inhabit space as they discover their body through a specific expression. Participants will learn an excerpt of a choreography that will be featured in the upcoming new production, “Anwesha, beyond the darkness!” that expounds the topic mental wellness through dance theatre.
